THE BORDERS ISSUE
In the Borders edition, we seek to explore the complex ontology, politics, and implementation of borders in Appalachia and beyond, focusing on how they influence conservation practices, identity formation, and social ecologies.
“With the recent executive rejection of the judiciary in relation to Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, and the abject failure of the Democratic party to engage in oppositional politics—the darkness of neoliberalism continues to recede deeper into the pitch black of pure fascism.
The sickening propaganda war is designed to crush your spirit.
The violence of borders is the crown jewel of filth defining all fascist movements. In their pursuit of an impossible ontological purity—in this case, a pure nation—they must devise and maintain an epistemological infrastructure to justify their violence. The border stands as the central iconography for the myth of nations. It is used to manufacture atrocity after atrocity, and to cover over lie after lie.
Many people are understandably experiencing enormous amounts of internal distress and fear. Nevertheless, it is incumbent upon us all to prioritize care so that we can meet this moment with careful attention and collective strength.”
